On Saturday, March 21, 2015, Leo Passage will be awarded the Beauty Changes Lives Legacy Award for his contributions to the beauty industry.

He is regarded as one of the industry’s most influential leaders, who developed a system of education taught around the globe today. He began training at 17 and in 1958 won the Champion of Holland title and joined the Dutch Olympic Hairdressing Team. and went on to win 95 international championships. In 2008, he received the International Legends Award at HairWorld and the Visionary of the Year Award from Intercoiffure.

Leo and his wife, Lenie, came to Chicago in December 1958. He founded Pivot Point International in November 1962 in Chicago with five students and one classroom. Today Pivot Point is taught in many languages and in many countries. His goal was always to reach out to the next generation of hairdressers and help them learn using artistic and scientific principles with predictable outcomes every time.

He was instrumental in developing Pivot Point using the principles of Bauhaus. The aim is to train craftspeople to elevate their skills to a higher level of artistic creativity, to see and think as a designer and understand why, not just how. As he explained, that is the Pivot Point Difference.
